Secret of the Second Sunday Market

Not far from Catonsville, just down Frederick Road in historic Ellicott City, a secret market is held on the second Sunday of summer months.  (That’s today for the month of August.)  If Baltimore was a fancy place like Manhattan or London, this market might be termed “pop-up” or “flashmob”.  However, in this town, an apt moniker like Second Sunday Market will do just fine.

Nathan's Bread

Difficult to decide on just one.

This cozy market in the parking lot behind Tersiguel’s offers a unique array of vendors, some not found anywhere else.  Last month, Nathan’s fresh baked bread was missing.  Hopefully, he’ll be back this time.  How fresh was the bread at June’s market?  So fresh that varieties of loaves were being delivered on foot (from Tersiguel’s where Nathan bakes them) well after market opening.  Last month’s market featured another gem:  Cayenne Chipotle Caramel Corn at the Saint Peter’s Church stand.  For those who might find gourmet popcorn like CrunchDaddy too intense for prolonged consumption, this popcorn’s balanced sweet and spicy profile started strong, yet didn’t overwhelm .  At least one bag was finished in the parking lot.

Hope it’s there this Sunday.

Coming from Catonsville, take Frederick Road all the way into Ellicott City.  Frederick Road will become Main Street and, shortly thereafter, make the turn shown in the first picture below.  The market runs from 10-3.   There’s even talk of a wood-fired pizza oven showing on Little French Market’s Facebook page.  What exactly is a pizza oven “showing”?  There’s only one way to find out…
